Until recently the process of manufacturing a metal protective case was an extremely time consuming, labor-intensive, expensive process and the final product though extremely durable was heavy and bulky. It's no surprise that plastic soon became the material of choice formany shipping and storage applications. It was the easy choice. Petroleum was the providence of the U.S., and the long-term sustainability of this cheap, easy to acquire resource was not in question. Much has changed in the last 30 years. Today the choice of materials used in the manufacture of a protective case isn't about what's easy. It's about what is right for .. America. Environmentally there is no question, plastic has become a problem in many different ways. From a resource sustainability point of view, petroleum reserves are in the decline and the countries that control these dwindling reserves are often hostile to American and western interests. It's for these reasons and others, which have more to do with the limitations of plastic in the field than the availability of rawmaterials and their location, CAS offers a viable alternative.

CAS has made considerable investments in advanced metal forming technology and processes that allow ultra fast, manufacturing of welded aluminum cases. Today case forms are quickly cutout with high speed lasers, shaped, then robotic welders precisely join the aluminum forms into sealed case units, ready for installation of hardware and final finish.
Welded aluminum cases are lighter, stronger and more cost effective to manufacture than ever before.
Many of the characteristics of aluminum that make it an ideal material in case and container manufacturing are widely known.There are however advantages that are less known but equally important. For example: Aluminum is not affectedby extreme heat. In the temperature range of —238°F to+302°F the material characteristics remain constant. The scorching temperatures of desert warfare often distort case and container products made of polymers.
Aluminum is very strong and resistant to impacts. Impacts may show on the exterior but the energy from the impact is absorbed within the distortion and not transferred to the contents. With most plastic cases, when an impact occurs the case will often flex or deform and transfer the majority of the impact energy directly to the contents. The plastic case then returns to its original shape leaving the contents damaged unbeknownst to all until the case with the damaged contents are in the field. There are of course many more advantages of aluminum. In the final analysis it is aluminum's long-term sustainability that is its greatest strength. Aluminum is derived from bauxite ore. Reserves of bauxite ore are sufficient to meet demand for the foreseeable future. Even better, the largest producer of bauxite ore in the world is Australia.

19" Aluminum Rack Mount Transit Cases
Our 19" rack mount transit cases are affordable and built to meet multiple MIL and EIA Standards. Cases protect electronic equipment against shock and vibration as well as environmental effects such as, humidity, dust and moisture.
